FAQs about Coaching
What is coaching?
Simply defined, coaching is a process of helping individuals discover their identity and purpose, acting as an anchor for stability and a mast for direction. Through shared experience and wisdom, a coach guides difficult decision-making and navigates life’s transitions with clarity and confidence. Quite simply, just as an athletic coach trains and prepares players to perform at their best on the field, a life coach equips you with the mindset, tools, and strategies to confidently navigate the game of life…and win.
What is the difference between coaching and counseling?
Coaching and counseling are both forms of guidance and support, but they differ in purpose, approach, and focus. Understanding these differences can help individuals determine which form of support best suits their needs. Generally speaking, coaching is primarily focused on personal and professional growth, navigating transitions, decision-making, and goal setting. A coach helps individuals find clarity, move forward, and realize potential in areas such as leadership, career advancement, or personal effectiveness. Unlike counseling which is typically past- and present-focused, coaching utilizes is largely future-oriented.
Who can coach?
Technically, anyone can call themselves a coach, but that doesn’t mean everyone should. Effective coaching comes from trained professionals, wise mentors, or experienced leaders and doesn’t always require formal licensing. While counseling is led by licensed therapists who focus on healing and emotional well-being, coaching is guided by unlicensed mentors who help navigate life transitions, make hard decisions, and take action.
Who needs coaching?
Everyone. We all face critical decisions, transitions, and challenges in life, yet few of us seek guidance when we need it most. Coaching provides the clarity, support, and wisdom to navigate life’s complexities with confidence—because no one is meant to figure it all out alone.
What kind of coach are you?
As a coach, I am someone who understands firsthand the value of embracing change and growth, not just in yourself, but in others as well. I am a leader who recognizes that every challenge is an opportunity for renewal, transformation, and deeper purpose. Having navigated my own difficult transitions, my coaching philosophy embraces the idea that sometimes the road less traveled is the most meaningful one. Without question, I am not afraid to take risks as I guide others through difficult, sometimes uncomfortable transitions understanding that there is no one-size-fits-all path to success.
My goal is to help individuals, couples, and teams explore their true desires and discover their untapped potential. I desire to help those I coach courageously face uncertainty, and to let go of old ways that no longer serve them—trusting that the Lord goes with them as they do. I understand that growth requires a willingness to embrace discomfort, to often make tough decisions, and to always look beyond what we have always thought possible.
My coaching isn’t about maximizing performance but finding purpose—it's about nurturing the unique talents and desires within each person and empowering them to be their authentic selves. Whether I’m teaching, preaching, coaching soccer or guiding individuals through life's challenges, I approach everything with integrity, a vision for the future, and a genuine desire to help others succeed in ways they might never have imagined.
How do I begin?
The first step is to determine whether coaching, and this particular coach, is a good fit for you. This is accomplished through requesting an initial session where you share a bit of your story either in person or through ZOOM. Following that session, if both agree to move forward, the coach will send an intake form to the client to be completed before the first meeting.
